Components of the Kindergarten Program

school kids:

  1. Experiences are provided to stimulate learning in all developmental areas- physical, social, emotional and intellectual.
  2. Each child is viewed as a unique person.  Different levels of ability, interest, and development are expected.
  3. Children will take part in activites designed to develop their self- esteem and a positive attitude towards learning and school.
  4. Children select activities from a variety of learning areas including writing and reading, dramatic play, blocks, science, math, games, and puzzles and art.
  5. Children are provided many opportunities to develop social skills such as cooperation, helping, negotiating and talking.
  6. The children will have opportunities to see how reading and writing are useful.  Activities include listening to stories and poems, brainstorming, making charts, dramatic plays, writing letters, and experimenting with writing.
  7. We focus on a letters, sounds and basic sight words.
  8. Children are provided activities to manipulate concrete items to build mathematical understanding.  Activites include patterning, graphing, comparing, predicting, estimating, counting, adding, subtracting, time and money.
  9. Science, social studies and health are integrated through meaningful activities.
  10. Children have time for active participation in self- directed play with concrete, real- life experiences.  This is part of the key to motivated, meaningful learning.  The hands-on approach is encouraged.   As children touch, manipulate and experiment with materials their concepts and language will gradually develop to enable them to understand more abstract and symbolic information.
  11. Our curriculum is based upon and driven in by the Arizona State Standards.
